Overview
Michigan's Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital clerical staff faced usability issues within their internal site. Staff needed a way to find documents and search information quickly and accurately.
How might we help staff navigate the internal platform faster and more reliably?
Outcome
Pitched the final redesign April 2026, usability ratings jumped from 4.3 to 6.5 on a 1-7 scale. The 36-member clerical staff adopted the new internal platform.
Simplifying search with an organized navbar
Consistent page names aligning with staff's mental models, so information can be easily distinguished at glance.
Content contained in organized widgets
Information stored in widget layouts, with a hierarchy in text size to simplify visual scanning.
Optimizing dashboard with most-used links
Storing most popular links directly in the dashboard, reducing search time and easing navigation.
Reflection
Visiting staff at the hospital allowed me to empathize with their pains on a deeper level. This redesign pushed my user research and surveying knowledge, and ability to adapt to SharePoint design capabilities. I am most proud that my design changes will improve the hospital's workflow.
